Brand Vs Dupe: Matte Lipsticks (Kylie Lipkits vs NYX)

IMG_1097

Hello there friends!

As promised I have the first lip stick post for you!

I wear lipstick every day. I also have long hair that will immidiately stick to my lips unless I’m wearing matte lipstick.

So when matte lipsticks started to become a thing a while back, the first brand I bought were the KIKO unlimited stylo.

This was around the time the very first Kylie Lipkit came out in the U.S.

It took a long while after that until Kylie Cosmetics started shipping to Germany, but when they did I manged to get my hands on 2 Lipkits and a lip gloss before they stopped shipping to Germany again.

If you’ve read my Kylie Lipkit Review, you’ll know how much I fell in love with the products. And now I once again have no way of getting my hands on them.

So I have spent many hours searching for dupes. And the brand and line I mostly went with is the NYX lingerie line of liquid matte lipsticks.

When it comes to Matte Lipsticks I have 3 go to brands: The Kylie Cosmetics LipKits, the KIKO unlimited stylos and the NYX Lingerie Lipsticks.

I will review them and compare them to each other individually :

Out of these three I find the Kylie Lipsticks are the best product, the KIKO lip sticks have the best value for their money, and the NYX lipsticks are a pretty good Dupe if you don’t want to spend 26€ on a Kylie Lipstick.

Just a heads up: This is a review on the product and color and a comparison between products and their quality but not between their color. These are intentionally not exact color dupes. But they do exist. For the exact NYX Lingerie color dupes of the Kylie Lipkits: A post from blogger Kasie

(nevertheless, there are swatches at the bottom of this post – just scroll down to see the colors swatched)

I think it was early 2015 when Kylie Jenner first started rocking that dark nude lipstick that later turned out to be Dolce K.
I made it my personal mission to find a lipstick that exact shade. I had to have it.

This was shortly before the very first LipKit would be released and I searched every beauty blog and magazine on the search for that lipstick.

That search wasn’t very successful so I settled for a “close-enough” color and by that discovered a treasure:

The KIKO unlimited stylo in “13 Cocoa. It’s a dark nude with a muave undertone and it is gorgeous.
It’s not a liquid lipstick, but it is matte and it does stay on redicilously long! You will need makeup wipes to get it off of your lips, that’s how good it lasts!
The liptsick is 9€ and I would say it has the best value for its money out of all matte lipsticks.
It’s a high quality product for a reasonable price.

I bought a lot of colors from this lipstick line and I believe they have recently changed the packaging and added extra colors and shades!
But like all matte lipsticks: You will need to press your lips on a tissue to get rid of excess lipstick so that it won’t clump.

In the summer of 2016 I was then finally able to get my hands on a Kylie LipKit!
My friend got me Dolce K for my 20th birthday and I was so excited!
The Kylie LipKits smell amazing and I really like the texture and application.
Dolce K is a very dark nude with a brown undertone and at first it looked great on my lips when I was a little more tan but right now it’s too dark for me to wear without looking too pale so I will have to wait until summer.
But I have to say I love the lipstick and it was the color I was looking for and I wanted it ever since it first got released (and sold out instantly).
It also lasts all day. When you take the excess lipstick off it will feel like you aren’t wearing any lip product at all while still having amazing pigmentation.

Both lipsticks do make my lips a little dry so I would advice to put on chapstick on top.

It’s a really close race because I think both products are amazing.
I am going to let the Kylie Lip Kit win this one just out of personal preference for liquid lipsticks over regular ones.

The next shade I knew I had to have was Candy K. It is a dark pink nude Lipstick and probably my favorite Lip Kit.
When I got this one I started wearing it every single day instead of Dolce K.

But again after a while I felt like it just got to dark for my nonexistent tan so I wanted to order “Maliboo”, but KylieCosmetics stopped shipping to Germany.
So once again, I was on the hunt for a Dupe.

I bought the NYX Lingerie Lipstick in the shade “Bedtime flirt”, which I would say is either a Koko K or Maliboo Dupe.

The NYX Lingerie Lipsticks have a nice texture and are long lasting. And I am absolutetly in love with the color.
I do think they have a slightly more natural look to them than the LipKits.
But: What really bothers me about the NYX Lingerie lipsticks is the applicator.
It is impractical and I really hate it. I like the Kylie applicator much better, it allows a way more precise application and is more user-friendly.
Another thing I noticed is that the NYX Lingerie lipsticks need to be shaken before using them, because all 3 that I have, had the problem that they were lumpy inside their little bottle before I even opened them.
(How you would expect very old products to look like after storing them laying down forever even though they just launched and were brand new)
After I shook it the lumps went away but I think they need to work on the formular.
They are only 8€ compared to the 29€ of a LipKit, so it’s easy to overlook that flaw.

Other than that the products are almost identical in terms of longetivity, packaging and how they look and feel when applied.

The NYX Lingerie line is a great Dupe, but when compared I would still say the Kylie LipKit wins this, until they fix the problem with the formular that gives it a lumpy texture before shaking.

All in all I am a big fan of the Kylie LipKits, because they are genuinely very high quality products in great colors and a big variety.

If you don’t want to spend that much money on a lipstick or they don’t ship to your homecountry, the NYX Lingerie Line is a great dupe with beautiful colors and a great price.

If you’re looking for the best matte lipstick for under 10€ and don’t neccessarily need a liquid lipstick , you should try the KIKO unlimited stylo!

Here are a few swatches just to get an impression of the colors, I find that they do look different and much more alike on actual lips.

But like I said before they are not meant to be color-exact dupes; I intentionally got them in slightly different shades, so I wouldn’t have the same looking lipstick twice:

Worth the Hype? – Kylie Lip Kits

img_0644-2

Hey there friends!

There has been a huge hype surrounding the KylieCosmetic Lipkits that everyone (including me) seemed to be captured by.

My friends and I are just as guilty of being those girls who set an alarm, sat in front of the laptop with our credit cards and a list ready to try to get every shade before it sells out.

People have been making it their missions to get Lipkits, preparation and all, because somehow they still sell out despite being around for while now and being released in bigger quantities than when they first came out.

And the question everybody who has not fallen for the Lipkit-mania yet asks themselves:

Are they worth the hype?

I know I’m late to the party with a Kylie Lip Kit Review, but I wanted to make sure I wore all shades multiple times to be able to give you a honest opinion that goes beyond just the color or first impression.

img_0641-2Unfortunately KylieCosmetics has stopped shipping to the country I live in so I could not get my hands on more colors. It takes about 2 months for them to arrive when you order them to Europe and I didn’t want to spend a ton of money on products that I didn’t even know I’d like.

But the shades I was able to buy are: The Dolce K Lipkit, The Candy K Lipkit and the Literally Lipgloss.

Dolce K:

img_0649-2
Let me start by saying that this was the one shade I wanted so desperately! Kylie had been wearing a dark taupe lipstick for a long while before the Lipkits ever came out and I made it my personal mission to find one just like it.

So when Dolce K came out I was convinced that was the shade I had been looking for in every possible makeup store and aisle.

I talked so much about it by the time I was able to order it for myself my friend had already ordered me one for my birthday. So by July I had 2 of Dolce K, one which I gave to my friend.

I love dark lipsticks and I love matte Lipsticks but I have to say Dolce K does not live up to its hype.

I love the other LipKits but I find that Dolce K dries my lips significantly more than the other shades. It might still be the old formular, I heard that they improved it and my other Lipkit is much nicer. It does tend to get clumpy.

The funniest thing about the Lipkits is that they look completely different on every person.

While Candy K and Dolce K look extremely dark on me, they look much lighter on my friend (who has the same complexion as me but she is blonde so that might be root of it).

img_0777

In these close-ups they look much lighter than in reality, I will share a pic of me wearing Dolce K on my Instagram if you want to see that.

It still is a pretty color but it looks nothing like it does on Kylie, on me. It’s application is easy and smooth and it smells amazing but it does dry my lips horribly.

I do like it, but when it runs out I would not buy it again. I think I would opt for Exposed.

(A great alternative is the Ultimate Stylo Lipstick from Kiko in the shade 13 Cocoa)

Candy K:

img_0654-2I love this shade so much! I was so excited about getting Candy K and it did live up to the hype.

Its texture is really smooth when applying and it looks amazing when it’s dried. It doesn’t get clumpy or dry my lips! I think it’s the new formula.

Also it has a much nicer wand than the older ones.

This one is my favorite.

img_0168

The shade is much darker in real life, I will post a picture of that on my instagram as well.

It’s so pretty and has a beautiful matte look, that makes it look like your not wearing lipstick at all (aside from the color).

It stays on all day without coming off and looks just like it was just applied.

It smells amazing, a sweet vanilla-chocolatey scent.

Candy K really is a product that is worth the hype.

Literally:

I never wear Lipglosses. Ever. This is the only Lipgloss I own.

That is because until last month I always had very long hair and lots of it that will just stick to my face and I hate that.

I live in a quite windy country and my hair kind of does its own thing so I always have to pick it off my lips when I wear any non-matte Lipstick.

But I am willing to live with that struggle for this Lipgloss.

I love it so much. I wear it more often than my LipKits because it just has the most beautiful color.

It’s a darker nude color and it doesn’t make me look paler than I am.

I don’t like the wand, because the application is quite a struggle with it, they could’ve designed that better.

But still once you put in on it looks amazing.

img_0748

Of course it’s not really long-lasting because it’s a gloss, so you do have to re-apply it throughout the day but it’s a Lipgloss so it’s normal.

I really love this gloss so much, it really lives up to the hype.

The Glosses have been promoted with a cool video but never gained quite the same popularity as the LipKits, but I love “Literally” quite a lot so I would consider buying another Gloss too.

img_0895   img_3377

These are the packages they come in. I love the design and the little card with a message from Kylie.

Conclusion: In my humble opinion Candy K and the Literally Gloss do live up to their hype, while Dolce K does not.

What do you think about the Kylie LipKits? And which one are you trying to get your hands on? (For me it’s “Exposed”)

Hope you have a lovely day
